Why does light make our skin darker but our hair lighter?

Answer #1

Skin produces a pigment called melanin to darken your skin and UV rays destroy the melanin in your skin which makes your body produce more the ‘reaction’ with UV rays and melanin cause your skin to get darker. On the other hand once hair emerges from the skin the cells in the hair die, Melanin determines the colour of your hair so with me i have more melanin in my hair than people with blonde hair do. after UV rays destory the melanin in my hair it makes it lighter because the cells in the hair have died so the hair can no longer produce it and fades the colour out turning your hair lighter. When your hair grows however it will be your natural colour because like i said the root is the only living bit of your hair.
