why do some sites ask you to write a letter code that is very obious, you can se the numbers and letters why do they do it?

I forget the term (Captcha maybe) but the reason is that it is to check that you are a person and not a computer program.

When a code or word has overlapping letters, or multicolored graphics, it completely confuses any machine intelligence, but people can easily read them.

This way the site can be sure that all hits on the site are people and not computer programs.
