What kind of parent gets mad at you and grounds you for cutting yourself instead of trying to help you?

They probably dont know how to react and it was the first thing they thought of doing, but cutting yourself isnt good if i were you i would ask my parents to get help to stop cutting yourself.

i think you should talk to them about it! typical things ive heard is that its “selfish” to cut yourself. they’re probably just mad you didnt come to them with your problems instead of cutting. the best thing to do is ask for help. its hard but you dont deserve to feel this way!

i’m not. its my friend’s situation. she’s here with me now cuz my family actually attempts to help her with her problems unlike her fam.

I agree with Devyn. What parent knows how to deal with their child cutting themselves? They are probably are hurt to see you hurting yourself & they take it out as if they’re mad.

well im sure the friend is going through alot i use to cut myself and i know tha like no one understands at first and because parenst worry bout you and dont want ther ekids top have any pain :) just tell her to stop i did and it was a great choice

I think that it is difficult for any parent to know what to do when they find out that their child is cutting themselves. I think the first reaction is unfortunately to punish to try and correct the behaviour even though it is wrong.

The parents get mad because they do not understand what is going on, and they think that ‘cutting’ is just some sort of rebellion. It isn’t. Cutting is a primitive method of trying to regulate her feelings. She is probably feeling a great deal of chaos - in school life or home life. See if your friend is willing to talk to her school counselor. They are trained to help their students get help. I wish your friend all the best.

well hey, one thing you can do, which i did, is make her realize that she affects people’s lives. like make her see that people care about her and if she is gone how differently things would be like you and your family you know what i mean?

they dont understand why your doing it because you havent talked to them about your problems. so they have no idea whats wrong with you. talk to THEM about it. tell them why you cut and ask them to help you get the help you need to stop cutting. once you tell them whats wrong and ask for there help they should be more than willing to help you

maddi talks to her parents about her problems all the time. it still doesnt help her cuz they dont care… but its better now :)

straight up awnser! some parents think tht if they discipline you then you wont do it again.. but they dont see that they also need to help you!
its just parents but try not to.. there should be no reason to.. u may be going through alot of pain and problems and stuff but ur just hurting urself more then helping just like what ur parents are doing! i kno for a fact that alot of peolple love you and wouldnt like you doing that to urself! but mostly later in life u’ll think it was stupid and learn from it.. if you need anything im here.! :)
