Answer #4

You can take the staight route and get a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Psychology. This should be substantial enough to get into counseling. Many Psychology programs may offer degrees specifically in counseling psychology. Courses in vocational psychology may also be of help. You will have to look around at the colleges you are interested in and see what they offer you.

Answer #5

I’m really sorry if this sounds rude but maybe don’t answer the question if you don’t know a lot about it. :S

You get a bachelor’s in psychology. So you take whatever classes you need to get that bachelors (pretty much any college will give you your requirements to get the bachelors). In addition, in order to be competitive, at minimum i suggest you take a statistics course and a research course. That is at MINIMUM. If you really want a good shot to get into a doctoral program, you will take at least one additional statistics course and one additional research course. If it is not your thing, then you may want to reconsider you career path, doctoral programs will have both research classes, a lot of research and statistics. In addition, you need to show research experience. Which means at minimum, work in a lab for a year. I’d suggest you do more than just data entry and you try and get involved so you have something to talk about on your application (that is why the year, in the first semester, no one lets you do more than just basic stuff). Then, of course, since it is a counseling psychology program, you need to show that you like working with people. I’d suggest you volunteer somewhere. The alternative route is to get a masters and then get a doctorate. This is the more expensive route (no one pays for a masters in counseling), but it will increase your chances of getting into a phd program.
