the term you want to use is “port forward” , best way to do it is by changing settings in your firewall to allow certain applications to run. if you actually need to open a port go into your router but with standard routers like netgear you need to go into your web browser and input 10.1.1.1 then change settings from there with the password provided by your ISP.
