How can I get out of this 9-5 job?

I’m so fed up of the 9-5 job i’m in (even though its actually 8-6.30). I would love to be able to stay at home and work, but have just got a mortgage and need to be financially stable. My only qualifications are my GCSE’s although I am fairly intelligent. Any advice?

What I’d do is try to look into starting your own business so that you can make some “side money” while still employed full time. Then if you get the business up & running after 3-6 months, you should be able to quit the full time gig & work on your own business, full time.

There are a ton of companies that hire consultants in many fields (my wife & I run a consulting business). I’m sure if you look around at your own field, there are consulting firms. Try meeting with one, buy somebody from their lunch, and ask them questions. They’d be flattered you looked to them for advice, and can potentially be invaluable to help get you started.

Good luck.

Also, you just have your GCSE’s and you say you’re fairly intelligent. BUT intelligent at doing what?

The world is filled with with intelligent people who do well in high school and college/university, but end up with a job they don’t like.

  • How old are you?
  • What are you good at and you like?

Have you thought about really getting into a career instead of a job? If you find somehting that you like, would you be able to do it part time and thus build up valuable experience?
