Is there still hope for me?

During middle school through sophmore year in highschool, I have been struggling with school due to laziness, and mmorpgs like WoW and runescape and Everquest. Towards the end of soph. year after my Biology class I discovered I was very interested in the field of human genetic engineering. I am a junior now and was wondering if theres still hope for me to actually go to a school like Stanford and pursue this career?

I am going to a school that allows me to take college level classes in order to transfer to HS credit and its designed to get you atleast a year of college done or your AA out of the way as you graduate highschool.

No. Unless you have at least average grades in all honors classes, good enough SAT or ACT for the school’s standards, and start doing phenomenal extra curiculars now (going to africa to help the needy, building your own robot, etc.) You have no shot.

I dont mean to sound rude, but those video games ruined your chances unless you agree that you are like what I wrote above. The best thing to do is research schools that are the right fit for you. Why do you like Stanford anyway? Is there pressure from your parents or others to go there? I think there are a ton of great schools out there and everyone has a good match school. No one should feel like the best place for them has to be Harvard or they are a failure. After a while it honestly comes down to what is a good fit! I suggest researching what are some schools with good human genetic engineering programs that you like.

go for the extracurricular activities they let colleges know your motivated even if your not you can still fake it just show interest in things the university excells in

Answer #3

I say go for it… the worst they can say is no, which would be the same result if you dodn’t try. So give it a shot. And like somebody said, do a bunch of extra cirriculum activities to show for.

Some of those computer games really are addictive, it’s scary. I know a guy who failed university because he was constantly playing World of Warcraft. So son’t go overboard, set up limits if you have to.

Answer #4

I hear ya, those games are crazy addictive for whatever reason.

Even if you didn’t do as great as you would have liked to the past few years, you can still get a good transcript with extracurricular activities. Colleges love that, sometimes even more than a GPA (which is slightly mind-boggling.) Also, if you do that program, colleges will probably be really impressed (though I’m not familiar with it.)
