Before you pull it out with the needle nose, you need to snip the barb off of it…the rest of the hook will slide out easily. Lots of damage to his mouh can be avoided.

depends on what kind of turtle you are talking about- a snapping turtle- I would just cut the line- hooks are designed to rust in about a week and will not harm the turtle at all.

a painted or mud turtle- I would just use a needle nose pliers and work it out- of course you will have to keep the turtle from pulling its head into its shell- if you can’t then I would just cut the line.
