Could I be pregnant?

How accurate are the home test (pregnancy)? Mine said it was negative but feel like I am pregnant. Should I worry about the changes that are happening or just leave it alone cause the test said it was negative? The last time me and my ex had sex was on jan.28 and I been feeling not like myself. I was very late on my period and feel really tired and have back pain and also when I sleep on my stomach I feel uncomfortable. So what does that mean?

In general, most home pregnancy tests claim to be about 99% accurate. Back pain is often a sign of oncoming menstruation, as is abdominal swelling which would explain the discomfort sleeping on your stomach. They can also be signs of pregnancy. If you haven’t had sex since January 28, and no period since then, it sounds like you’re definitely late. That can also be caused by stress and worry! Back to the test: there can be many false-negatives (says you’re not pregnant, when in fact, you are) for different reasons. Your hormone levels (if you are pregnant) may not yet be high enough to register, you took the test too early, you didn’t do it use the test in the morning, when hormone levels are most concentrated (because you haven’t gone to the bathroom all night), the test stick itself could be defective, or you didn’t do it correctly. The ONLY way to confirm a pregancy for certain is at your doctor’s office or at a clinic. Until you know for sure, do NOT take birth control pills, use drugs, drink alcohol or have unprotected sex. If it turns out you are pregnant, continue avoiding those things. Consult a parent, trusted adult or clinician/physician to discuss your options.
