I had a blood test a fortnight ago..

..and it came back and the doctor says it’s because I’m an alcoholic, but I’m not because I don’t drink - have heart problems and it upsets it so I don’t bother. Other members of my family have gone for a liver profile and had the same results - that they’re heavy drinkers but they’re not?? So what does it mean??

Answer #1

if you don’t drink, and neither do any of your family, then you should seek a second opinion. it could be a genetic problem, but then would only apply to those directly related (by blood) to you…

unfortuently, because of the rise in alcohol related incidences in the last decade, a lot of problems assosiated with the liver are cause by alcohol, and sufferers are becoming younger and younger, I am not incinuating that this is the problem with you, I am just put a possible cause to your doctors conclusion…

but get it checked out, then if it is genetic, any other younger blood related relatives could have preventative treatment before they become sumptomatic…

it means some thing in the tests are mesed up so you should have them try it agin.

Simply a Rose to brighten your day,         And maybe lessen the cares in your way;         And also, too, to help you to know,         That in knowing you, many others grow!       In YOUR case it could be that your body is so undernourished that it is negatively influencing your blood readings. Anorexia is a debilitating disease and can do many harmful things to your body.

As to the alcoholic readings or interpretation by your doctor, I think you might need a second opinion by a different doctor.
