It’s a gas at room temperature. It’s colourless and basically what you get when you add clorine to water. Basically H20 (the 2 should be small) plus CL2 (small 2 - clorine) gives you HCL (an acid) + HOCL (hypochlorous acid - which burns your eyes when you get into the pool with a lot of chlorine). And that is all I remember from my 5 years ago school experience.lol.

they use the acid that is formed for stuff like pvc fittings, vinyl etc
