How to make my hair...

My hair is wavy and very frizzy but I want pretty curls…how do I do that?

Sounds like your hair needs moisture. If you use shampoo, then it probably has sulfates (sodium laureth sulfate is the most common, but ammonium lauryl sulfate is known, too…if it ends in sulfate). Sulfates strip hair of moisture. There are almost no benefits to shampoo.

You should try the Curly Girl method! I have curly hair, and it has gotten curlier and less frizz-free since I started doing it. Wash your hair with a light conditioner (Suave or V05). Yeah, that’s right., NO SHAMPOO!!! Shampoo is bad for wavy and curly hair. And I’ve found that conditoner cleans just as well. So, gently massage your scalp for 2 minutes under running water, using 3-4 quarter-sized puddles of conditioner to clean. Then wash your hair with a SILICONE-FREE, THICKER CONDITIONER (I love Generic Value Products Conditioning Balm, you can find it at Sally’s Beauty supply). Silicones are a coating on your hair, and they hide splt ends and make your hair look good when they are actual suffocating your hair. The way to identify them is if one of the ingredients ends with “cone” or “xane”, such as dimethicone, amedimethicone, and so on. Trust me, your hair will thank you, and if will get the moisture it needs.

Throw away your brush! Don’t you ever brush again. It causes major breakage and frizz. And no terrycloth towels to dry hair!!! Only use cotton-t-shirts to dry your hair, microfiber towels, or floursack towels.

Next, go to naturallycurly.com. It’s for wavy girls, too :) It really saved my hair. That’s where I learned about the CG method. And this method will bring your hair to be the curliest it can be!

Good luck!

Silicones are mostly in styling products and conditioners, but some shampoos that claim to be moisturizing add silicones to their shampoo to make your hair look healthy. On the other hand, the sulfates in the same shampoo strip your hair of moisture! What a bunch of crooks…

Common shampoos that have sulfates: Garnier Fructis, L’Oreal, Suave, V05, Pantene, TIGI (some of them don’t), Paul Mitchell, Biolage, Sunsilk…and many, many more. A lot of Salon shampoos also contain sulfates. Usually you can find sulfate-free shampoos at health stores, or natural stores like Trader Joe’s, Henry’s, and Whole Foods.

Common conditioners that have silicones: Pantene, L’Oreal…some of the Garnier Fructis, Paul Mitchell, Biolage…a lot of them do.

SO MAKE SURE YOU CHECK YOUR CONDITIONERS AND STYLING PRODUCTS FOR SILICONES!

Good luck!!
