How to get a fishing job in Alaska?
During my life I have done quite a bit of commercial fishing in the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico; but for the past few years have considered the possibility of venturing to Alaska to experience one of the toughest jobs in the world on an alaskan fishing or crab boat. Does anyone know the best way to get a job in Alaska on one of these boats?
I had a friend who went there two years to find work. He said he had to hang out at the docks and talk to everyone to find an opening. He as you spent many years in the gulf off of Texas. He only made one trip in Alaska and said he would never go back. If you have something to prove to yourself, get it on. Just fly up there and hope to find an opening. Don’t be suprised if you don’t get hired.
