Add these two FREE programs to your computer:

ieSpell Checker

A FREE Spell Checker for Internet Explorer – lets you check your spelling before submitting your Questions, Answers or other information on Internet sites. It places an icon on your IE Toolbar that makes spell-checking a snap. It suggests alternate spellings when it thinks you have made an error. It also lets you add words to its vocabulary.

Answers.com - Fast Facts (formerly GuruNet and formerly Atomica)

If you often need to look up a word for its meaning or spelling; or a name or place,

I would like to suggest that you go to:

http://www.Answers.com/

and download 1-Click Answers.

Click on any word on your screen for instant, accurate facts.

It’s free.

This little program will work whenever you are online. It lets you “Alt + Click” on any word and know immediately (well close to immediately) what the meaning of that word is. It also gives pronunciation and if the word is a name it gives statistics. (It’s also great for checking your spelling of a word!)

I’ve used the program for quite a while and am always amazed at how handy it is. You WILL definitely wonder how you got along without this program.

My English teacher is always saying that I need to expand my vocabulary. She says that the best way to do this is to read a wide range of fiction and non-fiction texts. Anything from Newspapers to Harry Potter. Note down any words that you don’t understand or wouldn’t normally use. Good luck :)

Read and write more. Find interesting people to talk to who have an extensive vocabulary and more life experience than you do. Engaged teachers really helped me.

If you tend to get stuck behind the computer, get on Wikipedia and browse articles. Also, look up this book: The Thirteen and a Half Lives of Captain Bluebear. It’s fun and crazy, big and will definitely improve your vocabulary and get your imagination going as well. (I have not yet read the English version, but the Dutch and German versions are pretty impressive in terms of vocabulary).

You can start by spelling vocabulary right. Then you can read at least one book a week. I reccomend classic novels, or the typical Harry Potter or Twilight series, any book that has good vocabulary and is challenging (that’s how you learn). Non fiction books are interesting too. Write in a journal. It doesn’t have to be daily, but at least 3 times a week. Use a dictionary.

Answer #6

ok I LOVE to read so I think the best way for you to expand your vocabulary would be reading big books that your interested in that might be a bit of a challenge for you. So you pick up more words. And another way would be to always have a dictionary with you, so whenever you get bored you can pick 10 or so words that you don’t know and quiz yourself on them everyday until you know what each word is. Then as you get better make yourself a higher goal. Hope this helped good luck! :)
