How to de-electricize a TV?

So I’m taking apart a TV and I know they can store power in them for a long while even when not plugged in and I could easily electrocute myself to possible death by ignorantly fiddling with it.

Anyone know how I can slightly ensure there to be less electrocution whilst doing this? Is there something I should destroy/carefully remove first to rid myself of such a hazard?

Answer #1

I was thinking about using rubber gloves. I don’t think an anti static wrist band would protect me from the thousands of volts waiting to fry my innards.

maby an anti static wrist band may help ?

Answer #4

A static wrist band really won’t do anything. Rubber Gloves are a good idea, they are what I use when I am opening up computers that have built-in CRT monitors. It is always a good idea to short out the capacitors like filleofspam says, make sure you aren’t touching the metal when you do it either.

Answer #5

The high voltage capacitors in the power supply can store an electrical charge for at least a few days after the TV is turned off. When I worked on CRT TVs I always shorted out the big capacitors with a screwdriver or piece of wire before working on them.
