What are the chances of me being pregnant?

I had an unexpected sex with my boyfriend, about 12 days after my period.. no condoms or any protection. I’m scared considering my age.. can you help me?

12 days after your period falls into the fertile range (it is possible to get pregnant anytime of your cycle - it depends on your body).

If the sex was within the last 72-120 hours you can take Emergency Contraceptive (EC) pill - called Plan B in the US - to reduce your chance of pregnancy by 70-85%. In the US, ‘Plan B’ is the name of morning after pill, and it is available WITHOUT prescription, although the purchaser usually has to show proof of age 17. Here in Pennsylvania, Wal-Mart has it available on demand at the prescription counter. Any guy or gal over the age of 17 can buy Plan B. You can also take certain Birth Control (BC) pills for the same effect. Go to http://ec.princeton.edu/worldwide/default.asp#country

The most common side effect of EC is nausea (23%) and vomiting (6%). If you are prone to nausea, consider taking an anti-nausea medication (like Emetrol) an hour before you take the pill, because if you throw-up, you will have to retake the dose.

E.C. works primarily by preventing the release of eggs from the ovaries. E.C. does NOT work by causing an abortion. If you are already pregnant, E.C. does nothing.

Maybe it is time to get on BC pills, that way you are protected ‘just in case’. You can get them at your doctor, a free clinic, or a Planned Parenthood near you - depending on your age you may need a parent with you. (Which do you think your Mom would rather hear: I’m sexually active - I need help I’m pregnant - I need help

All in all, it is better to be on regular b.c. pills because 1.) They are 99.9% effective, and 2.) They have much fewer side effects. Note that b.c. pills do NOT protect against STD’s. That requires either condoms or abstinence.

If you can’t or don’t take EC (it has to be before the time limit of 72-120 hours) then you will have to wait like Pink and Ichi say, and take a home pregnancy test. If you are pregnant, tell your Mom right away. Do not wait.

Good Luck!!

its possible you can be pregnant, like broada28 says you need to see your gp but I dont know how old you are, if you are young, 12,13,14,15, it might be wise to take someone with you who is over 16. It is a good idea to tell your parents I know its scary but it has to be done, dont hide it from them. Or you can do a home pregnancy test which you can get from the pharmacy but you need to wait till the day your period is due to use it or you may get a false result. If its negative give it another week or so and try another, if its negative again you probably are not pregnant then have nothing to worry about. If its positive you will need to tell someone. good luck

To answer your actual question: ~How possible can I get pregnant?~

You had unprotected sex - that’s how you can get pregnant…as a matter of fact, that’s what you do when you are TRYING to get pregnant.

Wait for at least 2 - 3 weeks after you had sex and get a pregnancy test if you don’t start your period. There’s nothing else to do but wait.

see your gp ask him to keep all files private and off the slate
