How does bentonite clay work?
Bentonite is crushed and compacted, geologically processed volcanic ash. It is microscopically porous, so it is able to soak up many times its own weight in water, turning into a gelatinous paste, then back to a solid as it dries. Its absorbency and gelling action make it ideal for cat litter, It turns to gel and sticks together, and then dries into one loosely connected ''clump''.
