So I've been dating this guy for a year now and he's so amazing I love him sooo much he means a lot to me and he has such an awesome family they're such nice people except for one member...his father.
His dad drinks a lot and treats everyone badly and expects everyone to run around after him like his servants everytime I'm there he's always like "get me drink" he also comes home some nights so drunk ( he pretty much always is) and starts screaming at my boyfriends mom ( I love her she's so nice) because there's no money but yet he spends it all on alcohol and gambling. My boyfriends mom is always on his dads side and never sees how bad he treats everyone and moans at my boyfriend when he complains about his dad. His dad also acts like a spoilt brat and has driven the rest of the family away (my boyfriends brothers and sisters).
I really need some help to know how I can get over this dislike I have for his dad because everytime my boyfriend asks me to come to his house I never want to because of his dad. It's not like I can pretend like everthings fine when I'm there because it's not.I said to my boyfriend that I don't lke him and he said that I have to like him because he's his dad is that right? he's just really not a nice person please help!!
ohhh..not a nice situation I feel for you. First of all I believe the mum thing is because she is scared, scared of her husband and has probably never been alone so probably scared of that to. You do not have to like anyone because someone says you have to, if the dad is as bad as you say he is I very much doubt that your boyfriend likes his own farther. Your boyfriend is in a bad situation at home it seems and I think that he needs you around his house to help distract him and just for general suport even if you dont say anything. I would advise you not to tell him you dont like his dad considering the way he reacted, he is probably in denail about the fact that his farther is actually behaving in this manner and it probable hurts to hear that people from the outside cant stand him either.
Your best option is to not get involved in that area, go to your boyfriend house if he wants you to and try not to take notice of his farther, unless he actually starts to behave badly towards you then I believe you would have the wright to say how you felt and decide not to go back to the house, You dont have to like him...just act like you do. . .for your boyfriends sake.
When men are disrespectful like that- drinkin', gamblin', makin' an ass outta himself... there isn't much you can do for them. If I were in your situation.. I would respect him, to an extent. I would not obey him when he orders me to get him some damn drink! I mean, do I look like your maid? Lol. I would remind myself that it is not my place to tell him how to act, but I would stand up and be straight up with him.
