Hi,

memory is usually the term for RAM that is short-time memory used while your computer is switched on. google for a picture of ‘RAM’, open your computer case, take the RAM out write down the serial number on the main board go to the computer market with your old RAM and ask for a faster/bigger RAM that goes with your main board.

Disk space is for long term memory , that is your hard disk. Usually goes by the letter C in your file browser. Defragmanting will not be very helpful with XP. Because XP uses the NTFS file system and that is not as cr*ppy as the old windows-98-and-earlier FAT-32 file system.

If your disk space is low, delete some things. Like uninstall games you installed and you don’t play anymore. Then backup your files. Burn your photos and videos on a CD and then delete the copies on the computer. Or get an external USB-Hard disk and evacuate all the files you want to archive but you don’t need in daily use. Delete all temporary files.

Or get a copy of a Windows-XP install CD and just run a re-install of the entire thing after back-up-ing all you want to keep. You should have a product key sticker on your computer somewhere. So it’s not even illegal.

Skip Windows Vista. It’s trash. Don’t buy it. Stay with XP until you can afford a Windows 7. I had a computer running quite fast on XP, then upgraded for Vista - made it so slow that you could go get a coffe after each time moving the mouse - and then upped it for W7. Now it goes - well - not fast but at acceptable speed.
