how do I scream?
Screamo is something that takes a lot of practice. The first step is actually knowing what your doing.
I can teach you to scream amazingly for sure... just follow my tips/advice and I bet you'll do just fine -
First off, there's more to it than just screaming. You have to know HOW to do it and what things to do... or else you'll fck up your vocal cords and sht. That wouldn't be too fun now would it?
Screamo sounds really awesome when done right. My advice to you is just practice. You won't sound EXACTLY like the bands who do screamo. Everybody who does screamo has their own unique sound. Just try to start out by testing different sounds and such... low, loud, in between. Each should have a different sound. DON'T PUSH YOURSELF. If your throat starts hurting or your voice starts slipping STOP. Don't risk hurting your vocal chords. Keep a drink like water, gatorade or whatever you drink, handy that way you can get a drink in between screaming. This is an important thing to do to keep your vocal chords moist, that way your vocals chords don't start getting dry. Be sure to take breaks from it too. Don't keep practicing 24/7. Get a drink before you start, in between during your breaks from screaming and after you've finished for the day/night. Don't try to be something your not either. If you don't get it, don't worry. Maybe you will some other time. Practice for a half hour or an hour and then stop for the time being and maybe try again later that night for another half hour or so. Be sure to take a few 10 minute breaks or so in between your practicing times too as I said before.
Just follow my advice and you should be fine. But like I said... if it hurts... STOP. Don't ever push yourself or else you'll cause damage to your throat/vocal cords and then you'll really be wishin you hadn't of pushed it huh?
Ignore the dumbas*es who just say stuff like "uhhh... just scream" or "start by hating your life". Screamo has nothing to do with hating your life. And there's WAY more to it than just screaming.
I think that about covers things. If after all this, you still can't do it, or it causes pain. Give it up. Your voice/throat just isn't cut out for screamo and if you keep it up, you could end up causing serious damage to your throat/vocal chords. Also, if you need anything else regarding this or something... don't be afraid to ask me because I'm very good when it comes to stuff like this haha
I learned how to do it while using "The Zen of Screaming" volumes 1 & 2 DVDs by Melissa Cross. Volume 1 tells you how to breathe by using your diaphragm and how to warm up. Vol. 2 goes into different kinds of screams, like fry, death, and false cord. Nobody can really tell you how to do it with a video and expect overnight effects cause everyone's voice is different mentally and physically and it takes practice. But, her DVDs really helped me get my sound without damage. While browsing around I saw her vids on YouTube, also. I use fry the most and it doesn't hurt a bit. (unless I do it for 4-5 hours straight.) Volume doesn't always mean power. Concentrate on dialing in the frequencies you want at low volumes to protect your pipes and the microphone will add the volume so you don't have to, and don't be afraid to get real close or even cup the mic in order to put it out there.
I can kind of scream and im only 14. It helps me to actually close my throat like I am gargling water. Then try to scream from your diaphram NOT your throat because that could damage your vocal chords or throat. I also found that it helps to listen to music with screamo in it while screaming. But don't listen to it with earphones in because you want to be able to hear yourself and make sure you don't sound like you're dying. Don't do it for a very long time if you're just starting either. I did when I was just starting and I got a sore throat for a few days. Also some people have higher screamo voices and others have lower screamo voices like me. I'm not a pro but I found that those few things do help when it comes to screamo. Good luck!
In order to learn how to sing with screamo, you are firstly required to learn how to sing in your natural voice. This is the basic vocal training and then you add effects like smoothy, screamo, raspy etc. It could be dangerous if you do it pushing your vocal throat and it could make you lose your voice very fast. Therefore I suggest you to find a vocal teacher who is specialized to that and start working on it. Find some tips here http://michaelwillow.com/2009/03/16/is-the-screamo-singing-dangerous-for-the-vocal-chords/
there's no exact way to learn. some people are just better at screaming than singing you just have to really be loose when you're on the mic, if you're shy usally you just can't do it.
haha! sweetie, it's a talent... You can try, but be open losing your voicebox! :-s
