How can I dye my dark brown hair lighter?

I don’t have the money to get it done so am planning on using a box dye I have dark brown hair and I want it like a medium brown.. But I don’t want it to turn redish and I don’t want to bleach it! Is it true that if I get a ash color it won’t turn out red? If I put a light ash brown in my hair will it even do anything since my hair is so dark?? ADVICE PLEASE!

I used sun in and it worked like a charm! and I have your hair color. you can either sit in the sun or use a blow dryer. I used both and to me the blow dryer worked better. plua it doesnt damage your hair like dye does.

well it probably wont’ do much, on some of the boxes it says what hair color will turn out how, but I really don’t see the point in it if your just going to go from dark brown to ‘meduim’ brown. just get blonde highlights that would be easier to do by yourself than this shanangens you have planned highlights will lighten the color of your hair.

Lemon juice.. then sit in the sun..it will go lighter naturally
