What do you do during the holidays to help the less fortunate?

We bring can goods to our local food bank, buy toys for “toys for tots”, donate old winter coats and winter clothes, and i try and make time to volunteer at the local soup kitchen. What are some things you do, im looking for new ideas.

If you want to help the less fortunate then go to a Christmas parade near your area , and there is this section where you leave toys/clothes/ect. for the needy children , that`s what i usually do when it comes to Christmas.

We have an annual yule party where we charge a toy admission to get it. We usually raise 30-40 toys that way. We don’t actually celebrate Christmas , but understand how depressing being alone on December 25th. can be so we host a big supper for anyone who is alone on that day. I always send the invite out on Facebook and ask all my friends to share it so it gets wide distribution. We usually end up with 20-30 people coming and often about half of them are strangers to us. We also always donate food to the food banks.

every year around this time our church has this one thing where whoever wants to can put a package together for a boy or girl of any age, baby, toddler, teen. my mom and me usually do this to help at least a couple of kids. i don’t remember where exactly, but the packages are sent oversees somewhere. usually what people will put in the packages are, a toothbrush, toothpaste, a toy, a picture of the person who sent the package, some candy, etc

I always try to volunteer at the homeless Christmas lunch on Christmas day, but as of yet they have every year said I was too young. MAYBE THIS YEAR IT WILL WORK! We also buy toys to put under the tree at the local mall- they get donated to kids less fortunate. I do feel as though I should do more because I don’t have much family and don’t really value Christmas day as a special day for me/ my family.

Answer #5

Our school does what irishtomboy described: each class gets a family, and each person is assigned to get one thing from their Christmas list, either something they need, or something they want. On top of that, there’s a senior center that I spent time in for as long as they’ll take me whenever I go to visit my dad, which is any time we have school off.

Answer #6

I like to participate in this programme that sends christmas gifts to children in the pacific islands. You decorate a shoe box and fill it with two toys (something to play with, and something to love) an item of clothing, a personal hygeiene item like soap, something for school and something special just for them. You also donate money for the delivery of the presents and the continuation of the programme. Also, my church collects food and presents to donate to people and foodbanks during christmas

Volunteer at a community food bank, soup kitchen, donate clothes, blankets, baby clothes and items, and donate them to the churches…not Goodwill or places that turn around and sell them. That’s crap. Carry old blankets, coats, gloves, other warm clothing in your car, and if you see someone freezing on the street offer them a coat or blanket. But, be careful…you never know who you are dealing with…sadly. The best thing you can do in my opinion is give your time and effort. IT SHOULDN’T ONLY BE AT THE HOLIDAYS THOUGH. I advocate year around for some of the millions of uninsured Americans that have no health insurance by working with Doctor’s and drug manufacturers to help people get treatment and medication for free or nearly free. We’re still one of, if not the richest countries in the world and it’s shameful we haven’t been able to accomplish what Fidel Castro did decades ago. Free health care. We’ll spend billions helping countries that hate us yet we have starving children right here in America. Charity starts in the home. If we can’t solve our own problems (thanks to ignorant , apathetic voters that keep voting attorneys into political office. There are more than 2 parties in this nation. Sadly there is no real fundamental difference between the GOP and the Dem’s…they both just want power. 10 yrs ago Clinton left this nation with money in the bank. In less than 8 yrs the GOP bankrupted us beyond repair and now blame their mandates on the current administration. They publicly stated all they wanted this election was to be back in power. Well, we gave them their wish. Boehner cried when he learned he would be speaker of the house. Career politics should be illegal by federal mandate. This country is the laughing stock of the world. Not to mention the most politically ignorant and apathetic. Things will get much worse before they get better. That’s another story though…sorry. Help those that need it. Whenever you can and learn to formulate your own opinions instead of letting people like Glenn Beck do it for you. Happy Holidays Just for the record…the “job killing policies”Boehner keeps blaming on the current administration were the ones that he and Bush signed into law during the Bush administration. Don’t vote for incumbents…period. May God help us. Volunteer.
