What helps stimulate appetite?

My appetite has been gone the past two weeks. I hardly eat and don’t feel hungry at all. (I struggle to get breakfast in and don’t even have a proper meal a day) Also I have been having a lot of cold sores in my mouth, but even now that it is treated I am still not hungry and have developed the flu (I believe due to improper nutrition). Does anyone have any ideas of anything that will help for my appetite (no junk food or funny ideas please- the thought of it makes me less hungry already)/

Answer #1

Well, a couple of appetite stimulants I know of are peppermint and cranberry juice

Answer #2

Cook something with an attractive smell, such as steak. You could even watch the food channel for an appetite booster. (: hope this helps

Answer #3

I’ll try that. Seems reasonable.

Answer #4

Thanks, but have tried it, not even pizza can get me going or my usual love for healthy foods. I’m just not hungry and feel tired and drained.

Answer #5

oh okay. if you are looking for natural stimulants, you could try Cayenne or red pepper, Green tea, Ginseng,Garlic, Cardamom, Cloves, Fennel, or Ginger.

Answer #6

Thanks.

Answer #7

The smell of fresh baked bread !!!

Answer #8

Ginger, Peppermint, cinnamon and anise are good appetite stimulants (according to the all knowing web)

now id say a small workout would be great, if you are feeling weak or tired you can have a bit of chocolate, hot cocoa, or a piece of cake frankly anything sugary helps to give you a bit of power and it goes down well :O

your appetite could be related to other health problems, the cold sores are a signal for a herpes simplex infection…. which is not good news that they have disappeared yet you still have the same symptoms…..

go to a DOCTOR i think you need full blood analysis..

Answer #9

I have herpes simplex and have been treated for it the past week, that was the start of it. Have been to the doctors. Still don’t feel well, even though they are much better. But thank you. Oh and tried the chocolate things…..doesn’t help, but I’ll try the peppermint and ginger.

Answer #10

here is more :

Many herbs have appetite stimulating properties, including angelica, sorrel, dandelion, gentian and devil’s claw. Some have a history of use in traditional medicine, whereas others have science to back them. Devil’s claw, gentian and dandelion, for example, are approved by Germany’s Commission E, that country’s regulatory body for herbs, for treating appetite loss. Commission E also approves these herbs for treating dyspeptic complaints such as heartburn.

Answer #11

Caffeine can apparently, but I have never found this true for me. Would soup or smoothies be easier to get down?

Answer #12

Not really. Soup possibly, haven’t thought of that. Smoothies no, can’t stand those on a good day. Thank you, you just determined my next meal.

Answer #13

Hope it helps. I hate having to eat when I dont feel like it

Answer #14

It does thanks, unfortunately I already clicked on the like button too many times already.

Answer #15

Have you tried physical activity? 20-30 minutes of brisk walking or more strenuous activity might help. If medically prescribed marijuana is available in South Africa, that would likely help, too.
