has anybody seen the movie spun?

I dont understand the ending of the movie spun. I get it as far as how the drugs made everyone go down quickly but when the cook goes into the trailor at the end and it explodes.. was he trying to kill himself or was he trying to make more of his ‘candy’ and messed up? the only reason I think he did it on purpose was because of the story he was telling about his mother and the puppies and how she says she wished she could drown him because she couldnt take care of him.
