you didnt exactly simplify anything, you just kinda I dunno repeated the first step, also its clearly an equation, f could as well be x (as in x = unknown) and generally these equations need solving and not simplifying

O_O its clear that its an equation, your 99 in geometry seems to have been a 9.9… all equations are equal to 0 unless otherwise specified

Do it that way =) You can get the rest.

Dont assume it equals zero, sometimes they just want you to simplify (which is what it looks like here).

If there’s no number it is automatically a 1 so

3(8+f) +(4+f) = 3(8+f) +1(4+f) = 24 + 3f + 4 + f = 28 + 4f or 4 (7 + f)

24+3f +(4+f) = 0 3f+f = -24-4 <–move all nmbrs to one side and all unknowns to the other 4f = -28 f = -7 Proof : 3(8+(-7) ) + (4 + (-7)) = 0 3(8-7) + (4 - 7) = 0 3 (1) + (-3) = o 3-3 = 0
