What do I do after I finish my book?

How do I get it published? Do I need to send it to an editor, or will my publishing house do that for me? Do I need an agent? Do I have to pay an agent? Will I have to pay an editor? What are the pros and cons to getting professional editing? How good are my odds if I don’t have an agent? How should I go about finding a publisher, agent, and/or editor?

Some ideas are here: http://www.funadvice.com/howto/book_published

After it’s all in the right format, then start finding an agent, do some research on the various publishing houses and see if they meet your needs.

Ideas on how to do that are here: http://www.funadvice.com/q/how_do_i_get_a_book_published

And then, the pitch to the publisher, some ideas are here: http://www.funadvice.com/howto/write_proposal_book_publisher (and she’s done this before, so you know it’s good advice!) Good luck.

If you consider self publishing, you can go to amazon direct to publish your work. Of course there are pros and cons of working without a major publishing house, but you have more control.
