I don't think so. But I believe that people just emotionally block a lot of what comes in through the media. Because it's too much.
Like if you read that a dog attacked a child and the child died, you turn the newspaper page. If you hear from your mom that the dead kid is your neighbors child, you will be shocked. Even if you never knew the kid at all.
That which is far away comes to us as words and numbers. We never think about who the people behind it are, about how they feel and how those who loved them feel. If it is next door, we canot push it away.
If you would be personally sad about every bad thing that happens to someone, somewhere whenever you hear about it, you would be emotionally exhausted in no time.

700 years ago there was more disease, more violence, for example, if you were in the wrong place at the wrong time you could get your head chopped off... the legal system was a joke and people were put to death for the smallest of violations. If you had 10 children, you could easily lose most of them to disease or famine. So I'm thinking, maybe no.
Yes but that's the thing about civilization. It meant we moved in the world. Or we're so much in denial we just think we have. Maybe because that's what society expects us to be. Not as savage. Or maybe we are just as savage only smarter and instead of swords and spears we have guns and missiles. And instead of chariots we have tanks.
Well it makes sense if you think about it. If we got attached to everything that happened around we would be emotionally ripped apart! Also I think the violence in media has become so normal to us we don't get so shocked anymore.
Yes. There's too much going around for anyone to truly stop and feel for a particular situation anymore. Everyday we hear about things happening in the news and most of us will not give it a second thought.
when i was little i would get nightmares from watching too intense disney movies, now the kids i take care of love watching crime shows and playing those war games lol
To me, without a doubt...tv ads for dogs neglected, abused, killed....none showing concern for unborn babies......
