Erghh. Stupid?

My friend just told me how her dad lost his job and now she is going to need to work if she wants to buy things that aren’t all that necessary, like games or more clothes or anything like that. She kept complaining to me about it all even though basically the exact same thing happened to me when I was 7 (she is 15). After I told her that I have been working for a while too, she yelled at me and said I should feel pity for her. Do you think that is stupid or not?

I think she’s a little self-absorbed, but if she wants to buy things, she’s going to have to work…it sounds like she’s been a little spoiled.

If she’s wanting someone to feel sorry for her, she should have picked someone who hasn’t already been working for what they want (not very smart of her, huh?)…that’s HER problem not yours…

Have you ever thought that maybe she’s not just complaining because she’s spoilt but because she’s scared? Maybe you were able to adjust and get a job and take care of yourself, but some people have a harder time with stuff like this… All her life, things have been there, and she was taken care of. Now she’s kinda lost… Instead of judging her, or jumping to conclusions, maybe you need to take a step back and understand what is really going on… Maybe she needs to know that things will be ok, and she will be ok, and maybe she doesnt need someone judging her for not being able to just go out and immediately be able to deal with everything… No, I dont think she’s stupid. I think you need to be a better friend, since she is your “friend”.

I had a hard time as a kid working for money to help support my family, and it’s not like she has the worst life ever, it isn’t even that bad. Plus she lied to me about a lot of things before. Like her parents dying in a car crash with her brothers and sister, her getting pregnant, her moving, and a lot more. So I barely believe her…and then this just doesn’t seem real. At first I did feel bad, but asking for pity just makes it all sound fake to me.
