Leather, real leather is made from animal hide (mostly cattle or cow hide it is called) I’d say the dogs just can’t help it because of that. A dog will chew on or lick almost any dead animal. They do it because they are “dogs”. You can buy dried pigs ears and other such items especially made for “chew toys” for dogs at your local farm supply store and they may satisfy them enough to leave the furniture alone.
