Does monster.com work?

I’ve seen commercials and website advertising for monster.com. Does it work to post your resume on there?

Answer #1

Yes, it can work, but I’d recommend using multiple services if you are going to post your resume anywhere. Eg, careerbuilder.com, hotjobs.com, jobster.com, and search your local craigslist.org as well.

Answer #2

Yes! I got my last 2 jobs over the years by posting my resume on Monster. It is also a good search tool for your local papaer so you can skip all the stuff you don’t want to do. If you are more techie then go for Dice.com too. I still recommend going door to door and actually meeting the managers in person. They can better judge you that way and you can start right away in some cases.

Answer #3

YES!! Monster is great!! Thousands of people, and potential employers are on the service every day.

Answer #4

No, Monster.com and others like it represent a conflict of interest in that they have no interest in finding you a job. They make money from advertising and selling information about you to anyone who will buy it. Use them to locate possible job opportunities but contact the employer directly via the company website if that is an option. The placement rate of these job boards is less than %4, meaning less than 4 out of 100 people find a job this way. Not very impressive.
