Why am I getting my period while on Depo?

Another question/problem. I’ve been on the birth control shot (depo) since January. Last Thursday me and my boyfriend had sex and a few hours later I got my period. I still have it and tomorrow’s Friday. I usually have it for five days now its eight days! Is this normal? I’m not suppose to have a period on the shot. Also, since I did get my period, is it possible that I could get pregnant??

I’ve been on Depo for awhile, BEWARE, b/c I was only 6 weeks late on getting it again and it says you won’t get pregnant for about a year and a half and here I am now with a 5 month old daughter! I’m on Depo again and I spotted the WHOLE three months until I took the second shot and now I only spot once a month I’m assuming when my period would normally come.

Most girls do have their period when they are using Depo Provera. It’s usually around the third needle before your period stops anyway. Periods can be very irregular for the first 6 months, but if you are really concerned you can talk to your doctor. Since the needle is 99.7% effective I highly doubt you could be pregnant.
