Yes, they are part of the uterine wall shedding during this process.
I have them every month. Usually you should only expect to see them within the first 3-4 days of your period. However, if your periods are irregular, you suffer from abnormal pain, or noticed prolonged time of bleeding you should consult your GYN. She/He can assess the situation much better and make you feel relieved after discussing.

yes my school had this class where they made us watch a puberty video and it said during a period big globs of blood is normal they are called blood claughts

Yes those thick, gooey, dark red/black lumps are blood clots…they are totally normal.
