Do you think its right for a companys boss to not hire a person who has tattoo's and piercings or even to fise someone because of them?

Answer #1

I think it’s totally wrong and mean :<

Answer #2

I think it depends on the job. When you are going to be representing a company by being out in the public eye, then an employer should have every say as to how an employee’s appearance will affect their business. For example, If someone were to enter a law firm and the secretary had a mohawk, tattoos, and several facial piercings, it would show negatively on the part of the employer and possibly cost the law firm a prospective client…in some situations, you need to have a professional exterior.

Answer #3

Yes, it right and fair. It is their company and their image and they have the right to hire people based on the image that they want to portray. I have visable tattoos that can not be covered in any way, and i understand that means that i cant work at alot of places. You either get tattoos you can hide, or you accept the fact that findin a job will be harder.

Answer #4

Ya, getting all that crap is a lifestyle choice I guess. Maybe this person should have thought of some of the long term effects, instead of trying to be cool, Or Expressive. Some of this crap kids are doing to themselves today looks gross.

Answer #5

Actually that is a good point. I was thinking of the ‘unseen’ kinda job lol.

Answer #6

It really depends on the type of job one is applying for. If you will be displaying a public image, then the boss has a right to choose what type of image he wants to prtray. In the end, you can either stand up for what you believe and settle for whatever job that accepts you, or try hiding those tattoes.

Answer #7

i think its fair

Answer #8

Have to agree with Colleen. Any job that you are visible to the public, you are part of the image of the company, and the company has the right to choice what sort of image they want to present. Whether it be no viable piercings, tattoos or what not or having to wear a uniform. Now if you are working where you will never see a customer, such as a call center - I feel the company should be more relaxed about it, but some are not. The reasoning I have heard for it is if people working there look professional, then everyone is more likely to act professional. I worked in a call center for a while, and had trouble understanding why they made us wear slacks and no graphics on our shirts. I don’t know if I buy that reasoning, but it’s what was given.

Answer #9

Yes. That’s part of life. How you choose to present yourself is a reflection on the company. You’re not born with it, it’s something you choose to do. When you make choices you deal with the consequences.

Answer #10

I think that it is fair. If you are going to be representing a company then you are going to deal with different types of people with different backgrouns and different opinions. Your image might just offend them if you have tattoos or piercings. I don’t have any qualms with a company not appointing someone because of that, unless it happens to be a tattoo shop or a piercing shop.

Answer #11

i think that people have the right to do whatever the heck they want with themselves and its just plane ignorent to judge because of a few tattoos or peircings…. i personally love the idea of tattoos because if you get a good design and look closely its very very beautiful and creative, (depending on the tattoo) and i like percings like lip, eyebrow, and 3 sets on each ear type deal, but id probly tell them to take it out just while there working

Answer #12

i have to agree with that, because theres even people these days getting horns (Big metal horns) implanted, in there skull… imagine going through an airport security detactor with that look >_>
