What would you think if the company you worked for started giving out *fake-ations*?

A fake-ation is basically unpaid time off in lieu of a paid vacation. So, you get your vacation days, but you lose your vacation pay. The point is to try and boost the economy by cutting costs…do you think it’s fair? Do you think it would work?

Answer #1

No. If I want to take a day off w/o pay I can already do that as long as we aren’t too busy and no one has asked for that day off. If they took away my paid vacation time I would be very annoyed

Answer #2

I would not like it and it would not be “fair” - what ever that means. I would contact the Labor and Industry board to see if it were legal (day without pay is legal, but I am not sure about the loosing vac. pay part.)And I would be looking for another job.

IF my company ever did that to help it survive, I might be sympathetic IF AND ONLY IF ALL management AND all the way to the top sacrificed AT LEAST DOUBLE an equivalent per cent of their pay. (They have a MUCH greater per cent of discretionary income)

Answer #3

It’s not “fair” of course…but if I liked the Company I was working for…felt that I was an asset, and knew this was an emergency provision to cut costs and maybe preserve my job for the future…then I’d probably live with it (tho take damn little time off)…I’d ask if this was temporary until they got back on their fiscal feet.

Bimjob has a point, on the management part….only if what is good for me is good for them…since MY vacation would certainly cost way less to pay for than the CEO’s….
