Cheating vs an Affair?

Why is it that when you’re just dating it’s called cheating but when you’re married it’s called having an affair?

An affair is often something quite public and regular. Cheating is more of a secret thing thats isn’t done often with the same person.

Affairs with married people are often with the same person, like going to dinner, spending the night together and stuff all the time. Cheating is more like a one time thing normally.

If a married woman went and had sex with a random man for a one night stand, it would probley just be called cheating unless it went on with the same person for a long period of time.

If a woman was dating someone, but at the time was having sex with someone else all the time (the same person every time)… it would be an affair even though shes not married to her boyfriend, because shes having sex with this other person all the time.

What I’m trying to say is… cheating is usually a one time thing with that person (but still could cheat with others)… affair, I would consider an ongoing thing with the same person.

It’s always cheating. Affair just sound nicer I guess, like it’s a party or something.
