Can a koi regonize faces?

Can a koi recognize faces? And if it does, can it recognize the face after not seeing it for a long time?

A koi is a type of fish ( a fresh water carp) and very common around where I live (SA)…basically they resemble goldfish(well to me anyways) but are MUCH larger.

As for your question. here is what I found on the intelligence of kois

Koi are very intelligent and can be taught to eat out of your hand, and are sometimes referred to ‘pigs’ of the fresh water, as they will eat just about anything you throw at them. Koi can also hear quite well and will respond to voices especially the voices of their owners. It is said that most fish can hear up to about 1000hertz while koi can hear 3 times higher which very often goes along with intelligence of creatures.

Koi possess monocular vision in that each eye works independently of the other to produce 2 images. In doing so, they can virtually cover 360o of vision, - something that is very important for a scavenging omnivore, keeping an eye out for predators.

So from the above I am DEDUCTING that yes, they will recognise your face after not seeing it for a while…just like they will recognise your voice.
