How much water and how often do I water cactus?

How much water and how often do I water one? It is just one of those small $3.00 ones form Walmart. I have already killed 2 of them so obviously I don’t know what I’m doing, lmao

Answer #1

I’m following all your directions and so far “Bob” is still alive! Thanks for the tips!

Answer #2

lol, how do you kill a cactus? uhm yeah once every two weeks sounds about right, make sure it’s in a pot with holes in the bottom so that the excess water can drain out and it doesn’t drown the roots?

Answer #3

Oh yes, Ty is right – make sure it drains into an saucer or some type of container and then remove the excess water from the saucer, otherwise the roots will start to rot.

I’m the same way, Jules! My garden is full of nice things and my houseplants are usually screaming out for something… I had a cactus once that I watered about once every 3 months or whenever I remembered, and you could tell by looking at it, it was full of big healthy bumps from each watering! Then one day it toppled out of its pot and I dumped it. I was always kind of scared of the prickly bits anyway!

Answer #5

lol, yeah, I can kill a cactus, lmao The first one got all mushy from what I guess was to much water. I think the second died of dehydration from not enough water, lol It is in a pot with the holes though. Thanks for the tip on emptying the base though. I wouldn’t have thought of that one at all. I’m not much of a plant person. I can grow a hell of a garden but not house plants. Go figure.

lol

Answer #7

LOL, they don’t need much as long as its regular. A good watering once every two weeks… no little dribbles. Make sure it’s in full sun!
