Who knows a bit about Frostwire and has experience in it?

Is the software safe for any computer, as in, does it have virus’ attached like Limewire does? What’s it capable of?

Answer #1

If you’re careful with Limewire, and know which files to download and not to, it won’t give you any problems. I don’t like Frostwire.. I tried it for a while and could never get used to it.

Any of those p2p (peer to peer) programs are going to be full of virus. Especially the limewire types of software. There is really no checks on them at all. So just careful, and virus scan every file. And if it comes up with a virus trash it, even if its the only copy of the song on the list. Bit torrents are usually a little better because if a file has a virus people stop seeding it, and the torrent dies. Usenets are almost as bad as limewire like programs because again not many checks on then, and since its not a person seeding the files, they bad ones never really die.

One thing I would never get an executable file from a limewire like software. 9 out 10 times its going to be full of malicious crap. I used to use it for music only, and still had to be very careful.
Although I figured out a few things 1) more people it says have the file, usually the safer it is. 2) If list it as a high bitrate, but a small file, its no good. 3) If the file name is all screwy and not spelled right or even close to right its probably a bad file.

Answer #3

I used to always use Frostwire for downloading music to my MP3 player, and computer. It is safe, (no viruses) … but like any music you download for FREE it’s not legal. I found it very easy to use, of course it took a bit to get used to it, but after my cousin showed me how it worked, I caught on pretty quick. I don’t know why some people say it has viruses, but I used it for at least a year and never had any trouble with it.

Answer #4

I prefer Ares. Limewire always gave me issues.

Answer #5

Well either a) you got extremly lucky, like more luck than one human should have in a lifetime. Or more likely b) you just had a really crappy anit-virus that wasn’t tell you about all the virus. Frostwire pulls its downloads from the Gnutella p2p network, same place Limewire pulls then, and let me tell you the Gnutella is full of virus filled files.

Answer #6

Unless you where using Frostwire for a bittorrent client then the chances of getting virus’s are much lowered.
