Background Elimination in a photo

I want to take a picture of someone sitting at their desk. I would like the person and what’s on the desk to be subject of the picture. What I would like is for the background to be dark (or black, or not there). I will be taking the photo in a small office space (12’ x 12’) with a Minolta Dimage S404 Digital. How would I go about this?

Hi,

Your best bet would be to use the “background eraser” tool on Photoshop.
