why aren't brazilians recognized as Americans ?

Answer #1

Because Brazil isnt in America?

Answer #2

They are recognised as South Americans. Also Americans refer to people from the United States of America, not from South America or any other country. It doesn’t refer to the continent, but the countries.

Answer #3

technicaly south Americans north Americans mezo Americans, columbians, Ecuadorians, chileans, mexicans, salvadoreans & canadians are all technically in “America” wich technically makes them Americans, so why are people so blind to this?

Answer #4

Why are you so hell bent on making them see? I just consider people from The United States of America to be Americans.

Answer #5

You can add the word technically to whatever you want but it does not make what you’re saying correct. They are from the Americas, and they are Latin American. But they are not American. Just as Canadians are not Americans. Americans are from the United States of America. Who cares though? Are there are bunch of people from Latin America who have an issue with this? Because I have never heard anyone from Latin America actually make this an issue.

Answer #6

well this person from Europe somewhere once asked some questions for Americans like why do we call football fotball if it hardely includes using ur foot, just for fieldgoals, also the way we pronounce aluminium, the say we say it like aluminum, they also say how the united states is so big headed that they took the name America from the rest of the continent & only they are real Americans. I love America aswell as the U.S., & I was just very curious in this matter.

Answer #7

America is the name of a continent. what do you think of some person from Egypt saying that another person from lybia or from Congo aren’t in fact African?,

Answer #8

I think ignorance is a key word here

Answer #9

I have 2 go with Irene… Common sense dude…………

Answer #10

America is not the name of the continent. The name of the continent (and there’s two of them i hope you realize) is Latin America. The USA is in North America (a whole other continent). I somehow knew you were going to go with the Africa example. Call it a hunch. Of course that isn’t comparable. Because there’s no country in Africa called Africa. Oh and try not to throw that one at me, I am actually Kenyan, and thus indeed I am African. It’s a facetious argument at best. And I have absolutely no idea what your ignorant European ‘friend’ has to do with any of this. I suggest you ask him to go look up the history of how the Americas got their name. And of course you may want to go look that up as well.

Answer #11

Just for the record, I have been here a long time. This has got to be the most ludicrous argument I’ve ever had.

Answer #12

I’m pretty aware that Africa is a continent, wich was my point, please, show me were I stated otherwise???

Answer #13

Ok forget about brazil, Canada is in the continent of north America, now all I want to know is why they are not called Canadian Americans after the continent that they inhabit???

Answer #14

This advice isn’t so fun lol!!!

Answer #15

They are, just not in the USA because most of us consider people from the United States of AMERICA only to be American, but the truth is there is North and South america and Brazil is located in South making it legitametly part of the Americans.

Brazlilians are considered American’s most of us are just to narrow minded to recognize it.

I learned that in 8th grade, come on people! O:

Answer #16

They are called north americans. No one would deny that. You can’t just drop the north because you feel like it. Also, seriously, who calls themselves german europeans, or eyptian africans. It’s a uniquely american thing to qualify your ancestors origins to your nationality. It isnt done in the rest of the world. Even in canada, people dont go I’m African Canadian, I’m Irish Canadian, it is very much an American thing.

Answer #17

By the way, I do understand where you’re going with this. You’re just using slightly faulty logic is all.

Answer #18

north south east west who cares I’m speaking about “America”. Germans ARE Europeans Egyptians ARE Africans canadians are American and so are brazilians whether they be in the north, south, mid, highly irrelevent.

Answer #19

Thank you so much!!! Finally someone with some common sense.

Answer #20

Ok. Except that NORTH America and SOUTH America are two DIFFERENT continents. I dont understand. What part of DIFFERENT continents are you not understanding? Those are two different places. There’s no north european continent and south european continent. And if there was, we would make sure to call people from the different continents by their right name.

Answer #21

And you know what, if you want to disagree with the whole world, that is your business. If you choose to rename continents, good for you. This really is a non-issue. Except in your head. And if this is the most important thing you’ve got to worry about, you need to find something else to do with your time.

Answer #22

Ok this issue has already been adressed, although not to important to me I just wanted to see who was ignorant enough to debate me on this. Now please, some of us have to work in the morning shoo!

Answer #23

ok if u were to go to Europe and were asked where u were from, what would you say? “oh I’m from north america” get real, granted they’re two separate continents, that was never even a debate on my part, if ur from south America ur American. or “south American” if it makes you happy. gn

Answer #24

I honestly don’t see what the big deal is. Brazillians are American, yet they aren’t from the country called the UNITED states of America. You are missing the whole point.

Answer #25

But it still isn’t part of the United States of America.

Answer #26

Who said it was??

Answer #27

that was my point, they ate Americans .

Answer #28

are

Answer #29

Then why on earth are you arguing? That is what everyone has been saying the whole time.
