Are Holland and The Netherlands the same thing?

People usually use Holland as a second international name for the netherlands.

But officially Holland is only the financial center of the netherlands (noord-holland, zuid-holland and utrecht), but that was somwhere around the time from the VOC (united east indian compagnie… really long ago.. around 1500 or something).

so you can say that they are the same thing
