Does anybody have a ferret?
Ok, well im concidering getting a ferret now, I’ve done a lot of research on them, found loads of sites. but I want to talk to somebody who actually has a ferret, not just read up on the details on some site. so, anybody have one? was it hard to convice your parents to let you get one? and exactly how hard is it to take care of one?
thanks!
Well, I have one, and it wasn’t that hard to get my parents to approve. They’re great pets and they’re really fun. It isn’t really that hard to take care of them, but it does require effort; you’ll have to clean its litter box daily, and clean its cage at least once weekly, give it fresh food and water (obviously) and be sure that you’re able to take it out and let it play at least 20 minutes a day. If you travel a lot, I wouldn’t suggest getting one unless you know somebody who’ll take care of it for you and that you trust with your pet. They do require specialized care, because they aren’t like cats or dogs, and don’t respond very well to those medications and treatments. Try to find a vet that specializes in ferrets or exotic pets.
Yes I have two, but I once had four at a time, they have a natural musky smell. No matter how much you bath them they have a smell, but they are very fun to play with they love to get out of their cage and romp around the house. just be aware of things too small they could swallow we have a plastic box we out rice in,( not cooked) and they love to roll around in it, they are just too funny when they chase each other around. they can nip but if you tap them on the nose and say NOOo they will usually learn not to bite and the more you play with them they get very loving and tame. When you get one they are always nuetered or spayed it,s the law and you have to license them and get a certificate of ownrship in ca they ever got loose.

“well, theyre as hard as any rodent, not super much but they crap on EVERYTHING and get wood shavings everywhere…”
CORRECTION: THEY ARE NOT RODENTS, NEVER USE WOOD CHIPS OR SHAVING, IT IS TOXIC TO FERRETS, AND CAUSES RESPIRATORY PROBLEMS, WOOD SHAVING ABSORB ORDERS AND BACTERIA
“also (and ferrets are notoriously bad for this) they smell. and they make your room smell. now admittedly you get used to this but you never really feel clean.”
IF THEY SMELL, YOU HAVE TO CHANGE THE LITTER BOX DAILY, AND CLEAN THE BEDDING ABOUT TWICE A WEEK.
DON’T BATHE THEM, THEY DON’T NEED IT, THEY GROOM THEMSELVES UNLESS THEY GET INTO SOMETHING THAT YOU HAVE TO GIVE THEM A BATH. ALSO BATHING DRIES THEIR SKIN OUT, AND THEY START PRODUCING MORE OIL TO MAKE UP FOR THE LOSS, IT MAKES THEM SMELL MORE!!!
if they all in all id say not worth it but then again, I hate putting effort into anything so yea.
they’re super cute but I still wont hold them because they smell so bad and you start smelling bad too!
THEY DON’T SMELL BAD AT ALL, LEARN HOW TO PROPERLY TAKE CARE OF THEM!!!
We Used To Have One Named Pipsqueak :) They’re The Coolest Pet Ever! They Are Wicked Smart, And So Entertaining. Ours Used Only Crap In One Corner Of His Litter Box And Most Others Are The Same So Its Easy Cleanup. But Only Get One Or They May Not Like You As Much Because The Other Ferret Would Be His Best Friend Or Something. But They’re Great. :P
yes I have tow of them a girl and a boy first to take care of a ferret you must love them becose if you don’t it’s very difficult to take care of becouse you have to clean the cage evry3 days and whene you let them play around the house they pop in evry corner and you have to change there food evry day and the water it was not hard to convince my parents at all my mom was the one who said that they have tree that there giving away and I siad if we can get them and she said yes I was suprised she didint say no becouse of ther distinc smell that they have natrali there are very funny thay chase my dog around for a long time and when thay beheva bad I just tell theme no and tap them on the nose
