Is this odor from my birth control pills?

I started taking new birth control pills about a month ago, I cant remember what they are called but they are the ones that you take for 3 months and then have a period and then go 3 months again without a period…ever since I started taking them I have had a really bad odor from my vagina. I have never really had a smell before except for a little bit right after my period. Its not a fishy smells, its not anything I have ever smelled from there. I want to know if its from the pill or something else! can anybody help?

Hi,

I would talk to your doctor. The pill is likely causing this odor, since birth control pills are hormones, and hormones is what can make you smell down there. I’d consider asking your doctor if the odor is likely to go away, or if you should switch to a different pill.

Also, please discuss the safety of this type of pill with your doctor. Not to cause alarm, but I read a story about someone who took those pills (3 months without a period) and had a blood clot that killed her…they seem dangerous.
