Am I an Alcoholic?

Does anyone know the signs that tell you that you are an alcoholic as opposed to someone who enjoys a few drinks like normal people do? Like, if I drink before lunchtime is that really bad..?

Answer #1

Two things to look out for, does it affect your health or those around you. If not, then you are not an alcholic.

Answer #2

If you drink every day, you’re probably an alcoholic.

Answer #3

I’m a recovering alcoholic…and in my opinon, if you are asking the question about yourself, then there is a good chance you either are, or heading that way…

When you go out, do you ever tell yourself your only going to drink two drinks, but never keep that promise to yourself? Is a party no good, unless there is booze at it? Do you drink everyday? If you don’t drink everyday, do you get drunk everytime you drink (or almost everytime)? If you have one drink, can you stop without feeling uncomfortable? Do other people talk about your drinking? Parents, friends?? Do you drink to cure hangovers? Have you ever blacked out, and not remembered what you did or said?

There are drunks who drink all the time, and stay drunk…there are drunks who do maintenence drinking…don’t appear drunk, but have alcohol running in their veins at all times. There are binge drinkers, who may go months or years without a single drink…but once they’ve had one, they’re on a bender until they can’t take it any longer…

Just keep in mind that alcoholism is a progessive disease…it only gets worse, it never gets better…

Answer #6

Not every day but whenever I get nervous or am going to be going out to a social event I feel I NEED to drink before hand to calm my nerves. And it works so I keep doing it…

Answer #7

your an alcoholic if you feel like you need it.. if you tell urself no I wont.. but then take a drink neway.. or if after you drink it causes any kind of problem then maybe you r an alcoholic. if you only have a few drinks before going out.. then no. just dont make it a habit!!

Answer #8

Everyone is unique and reacts to things differently, but if you feel you need the alcohol especially during times of stress, you need to look at that. Physicians use a small questionaire called the CAGE to help them determine if someone is an alcoholic or has a substance abuse problem. Go to http://www.akatoo.com/question.html?question_id=4912543 for more detailed information .

Answer #9

A person who drinks once a yr can be an alcoholic, if he drinks to get drunk. An alcoholic drinks to get drunk. Drinking alone, early in the day (a beer with your cornflakes), weekend pariers (HS kids) who live for the weekend so that they can get drunk again.
Alcoholics have problems keeping their lives together, may have problems with keeping jobs BUT may also be highly functional where work is concerned. Lots of things can be symptoms though some may be a litle more sublte, yet as time goes by they become more noticeable to the friends and loved ones..Someone else will probably have a lot more to add to what I’ve said

Could you be drinking too much? 1

• Do you drink alone when you feel angry or sad?
• Does your drinking ever make you late for school or work?
• Does your drinking worry your family or friends?
• Do you ever drink after telling yourself you won't?
• Do you ever forget what you did while you were drinking?
• Do you ever get headaches or have hangovers after drinking?
• Have you started hanging out with heavy drinking friends?
• Do your friends use less alcohol than you do?
• Have you ever been in trouble because of your drinking?
• Do you ever borrow money or go without things in order to buy alcohol?
• Is drinking hurting your reputation?
• Do you feel a sense of power when drinking?
• Do you ever drink until your supply is gone?
• Have you ever lost friends because of your use of alcohol?
• Do you think you might have a drinking problem?

The more of these questions that apply, the greater the chance that you might have a problem with drinking. But having a drinking problem doesn’t mean that you are alcoholic or that you have to abstain from alcohol. Most people who experience problems from drinking choose to reduce their consumption to moderate levels rather than to abstain. You might consult with your doctor for advice. More information on how to either abstain or reduce your drinking is here: [link removed]

Answer #11

No, that is definitely not true. Drinking daily in moderation is associated with better health and greater longevity than is either abstaining from alcohol or abusing it. The evidence is overwhelming as this site demonstrates. [link removed]

Answer #12
