How do I know if I have an addiction to spending money?

I shop, to fill a void. I know I do that. The same way people comfort-eat, I comfort shop. If I comfort ate- I would probably be bed ridden I would be so overweight. I’m not breaking the bank, but I do spend too much money. I’d like to know how I can tell if I have an addiction, or if I’m just like other teenagers?

When you’re constantly spending money, or when you have money you can’t help but spend it. Maybe when you try to save money, or put some money aside but something is just eating away at you to spend it.. then you find yourself broke with pointless things that you probably could have gone without buying.. I’m having the same exact problem!

I think its normal because lots of people do that thou’ i dont have that much money and every salary i get i distinguish alittle part of it and give it to poor people…at the same time i can shop…eat..however .the thing is you can set a list and spend your money reasonably…if something is not very necessary i suggest you better not to buy or spend money for it…that is what i do =) take care hun :)

If you shop to “fill a void” in your life, then that could probably be classified as an addiction. However, everyone does something to fill a void in their life. No matter who you are and how much wealth and health and happiness you have, we all feel an empty spot where something in our lives or ourselves is missing, and it’s only natural to try to fill that need. As long as you aren’t obsessed with shopping and spending money to the point that it’s damaging your relationships with your loved ones or compulsively spending money you don’t have/racking up crazy debt on things you don’t even want, then it’s probably ok. Maybe try making a budget and only using a certain amount of money to spend a week or month on unnecessary things. If you can stick to it, you will have eased your mind about your possible addiction to spending money. If you find yourself panicking and just dieing to spend more than you have allowed yourself, you may have a problem and want to talk to someone about it before this behavior carries over to your adult years and you make some serious financial mistakes.

Having a shopping addiction is the worst thing to go through, i would know because i have one. I’ve gone to several therapist & no one could help. I think i just went because i knew it would cost money. Ive gone through it all, the denial, the acceptance & the just not giving a fu*k anymore. Ive spent more than 5k in just a few hours. im extremely sneaky about it so no one notices unless i say something. I dont think i can change, this has become a lifestyle for me. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that Ive been spoiled all my life.
