If you cut a pie into 8 equal pieces, each piece is one eighth.
7/8 means seven eighths. 1/8 means one eighth. The first fraction is 7 times bigger than the second one.
So now can you figure out what 4/8 is and what 8/8 is?
7/8 is bigger than 1/8. Draw 8 stars. Shade 7 out of the 8 stars. Draw another set of 8 stars and shade 1 out of the 8 stars. Compare. Which fraction has more shaded stars.
I forgot a lot of my math so I could be wrong on it being smaller. It depends on how you look at it really... But what I said above is correct.
Think of it like a pie. 7/8 means that 7 of the eight pieces are there. 1/8 means only one of the pieces is there.
7/8 is bigger than 1/8. you have 7 out of 8 pieces of pizza. that is more than 1 piece out of 8 slices of pizza.
