Why does the media portray english people as not liking americans?

Not me. Asked by smiles about 1 year ago, 10 answers.

Watching movies, I've noticed that English people don't like American people that much. Well, this is only in the movies..but does this happen in real life also? If so, why's that? Oh yeah..I know im not asking for advice, but I was just wondering ^^ .

There are those in America today that enjoy the bashing and are hopeful that whatever it tries, fails...also, Hollywood in most cases does a great job also in trashing it's image...these are the times in which we live.

I do believe that if people are trying to give Americans a bad name, it may be that they themselves have had either a bad experience in the US or online.
It is kind of along the same lines when I was stationed in Germany, not every German
likes the Americans, but you maintain your courtesy to them just the same.

The media stereotypes largely b/c as the old saying goes "if it bleeds, it leads" meaning whatever is the most sensationalist, is what they publish.

I've been to the UK, so has my wife, and yep, we have some regular FunAdvice members from there, too. In fact at least one of our advisors is from England. And, one of the nicest internet marketers I've ever met is from England. Incredible guy, really.

as of july this year, the world population is over 6.6 billion people in the world. it's highly unlikely to think that every person in the world is going to like every other person in the world, every country in the world is going to like every other country in the world, or that every faction, race, religion, etc. is going to like every other faction, race, or religion. people are going to dislike other people because that's just how the world is. a lot of other countries have issues with america, and likewise a lot of americans have issues with those countries. it shouldn't be surprising that some people in the UK don't like america and vice versa. however, it doesn't mean everyone in the UK hates america and that goes for every other country or type of people.

I'm British and as long as you're a good person I don't care where you come from. There is too much stereotyping going on in the world.

I have several British friends and it is not as if they don't like individuals, but on the whole the American foreign policy seems to be lacking any sort of care or consideration for what other countries think. Our current president does not let the opinion of other countries influence him in the slightest, and generally that doesn't sit well with the rest of the world- including the U.K.
