Why is there no literal translation for picante in english?

My daughter(left) and her cousin Asked by miomiomio about 1 year ago, 4 answers.

I mean, there is no word in English that means exactly the same as picante. Please do not say that hot (caliente) or spicy (especiosa). Spicy refers to spices, not the same as what picante means.

According to Babel Fish Translation, sharp is the English equivalent of picante.

Not every word in every language has an English equivalent.

Answers.com has a definition for it, so maybe it is sort of Americanized and doesn't need an English equivalent.

pi·can·te (pĭ-kän'tā)
adj.

1. Prepared in such a way as to be spicy.

2. Having a sauce typically containing tomatoes, onions, peppers, and vinegar.

[Spanish, present participle of picar, to bite, prick. See picaro.]

Picar and picante do not mean the same thing, and most translation sites just make something up if they do not know what a word means or how to translate it. Thank you for trying though.

perhaps for the same reason there is no literasl translation for chihahua (sp?) or dalmatian. When I lived in went to school in Germany, I was suprised to find many words I knew to represent a certain thing in English, had multiple synonyms in German. For instance, potatoe is kartoffel, but it is also erdapfel (pomme de la terre in French) which literally means earth-apple, or loosely ''apple from the ground''. So, in a roundabout way what I'm trying to say is perhaps there is no literal translatory word for picante in English, or any other language that I am aware of, because there just isn't.
