yeah theres a chance but it will be fine they have done this experiment before with the same risk but obv the faster they go the greater the risk and they are smashing protons together at a greater speed than before to see if it has mass but really it will be fine 1. because they have to put the risk down because you cant see the future 2. the smash atoms together which have protons 3.they done it before 4. the media is making up most of this and exaggerating the rish dont worry I had this fear for about a week but it will be ok
- They're not actually engaging in any collisions when they first fire it up. It's just a test run in which they circulate a beam to make sure everything's working.
- When they do test it with collisions, they'll be testing it at a low power that's already been done hundreds or thousands of times in other supercolliders around the world.
- When they do fire it up to full power (probably some time next year), yes, there's a theory that predicts microscopic black holes. The theory's considered pretty unlikely, and even if they do form, they will 'evaporate' back into nothing in extremely short order.
- The sort of collisions they'll be testing at full power happen in our upper atmosphere all the time. If microscopic black holes are formed that way, the earth would have been consumed by them long ago.
So in a nutshell: No, the world will not end this wednesday, or when they actually use it to test collisions, _or_ when they fire it up to full power. No, not even a 'small' chance - no chance at all.

Why is the world supposedly ending tomorrow?
I myself am kind of freaked out. I keep seeing questions like 'Are we dying tomorrow?' etc..What's going on? I don't particularly like watching television let alone the news...Could anybody kindly answer this for me?
Thanks
