it is illegal, and it needs to stay illegal
there are a few download sites that allow you to pay for downloads of music you want
the rest are illegal, and you get them for free
this costs the record labels and individual artists/musicians thousands-millions of dollars
all money that they need to keep themselves going
and because electronic crap like ipods, mp3 players, ect are so popular
more and more people can do it
if music suddenly became legal to download for free
hardly any money would be made from there actual album sales
and they wont get any of the money from the downloads
the money that they would get wouldnt be enough, theyd make no profit
they wouldnt have money to make another album, ort even keep there band going
pretty much every band would eventually die
all because people got greedy and couldnt be bothered paying for what they want to hear

You can still record music from the radio, that is ad driven and the bands are paid for it when their songs are played. When you copy or share music the bands get nothing. As others have said if they make no money then they stop making music, then all you will be sharing/downloading is dead air. Record companies ARE greedy by nature, so share your opinion with them that music is too expensive and that you would buy more if it was cheeper, that might get you somewhere, but saying music should be free to steal is absurd, should people be free to make you work without a paycheck, or refuse to pay you after you work? If you don't want to pay then go without, stealing because you can is still stealing, trying to justify it is nonsense.
